B2's internship program gives PR interns the opportunity to get tons of real-world experience, as spring semester PR interns Alexis Novales and Taylor Tew can tell you.
Alexis, a University of Tampa senior, and Taylor, a University of South Florida-St. Petersburg junior, have already dived into their tasks. Alexis is doing everything from helping to prepare a targeted media outreach list for an upcoming announcement to drafting social media posts for B2’s channels. Taylor is handling things like compiling a weekly commercial real estate coverage report and posting client news releases online.
They are also shadowing B2’s principals and partners for client meetings and news interviews, seeing how we work. Already, Alexis has attended a client video shoot, and Taylor sat in on an appearance by leaders of the Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago on WFLA-Channel 8’s “Daytime” a few days before the Knight Parade.
Outside of her PR internship, Alexis is an event specialist at the Glazer Children’s Museum, where she is responsible for facilitating various events. She is also a writer for the University of Tampa chapter of Her Campus, a student publication that allows college-age women across the U.S. the opportunity to share their voices.
Taylor, meanwhile, runs the social media accounts for the Tew Farms produce market in Lithia. She's also involved with the Jensen’s Heart of Gold Foundation, which provides funds for local children who are battling cancer, specifically neuroblastoma.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations this May, Alexis hopes to pursue a career in social media management and marketing communications. Taylor will receive her bachelor’s degree in communications in December, and hopes to work in either the journalism or public relations field.
