Summer 2024 intern Rachel Mayer is an honors graduate student at The University of Alabama. She’s studying public relations with a concentration on crisis management.
As a public relations intern at B2 Communications, Rachel assists the B2 team with client and agency tactics. Her responsibilities include preparing client reports, researching campaign elements, crafting social media content, posting press releases and drafting effective communication materials.
Prior to joining B2, Rachel successfully led integrated marketing campaigns for Mellow Mushroom, a stone-baked pizza company with more than 160 locations across 18 states, and The University of Alabama’s 20th anniversary of its Honors College.
At Mellow Mushroom, Rachel served as a brand planner. She conducted primary and secondary research, providing Mellow Mushroom insights from surveys, observations, brand analyses and industry reports.
With the University of Alabama, Rachel coordinated The Honors College’s social media and community outreach efforts to raise campaign awareness and boost engagement. The campaign amassed over $10 million, achieving the campaign’s goal by 118% and fueling efforts to build the new Honors Hall.
In addition to her internship, Rachel is the sole teaching assistant for the undergraduate campaigns course, “Advertising/Public Relations Campaigns.” This summer, students are developing a campaign for NASCAR targeted toward Generation Z. Rachel guides students by holding office hours and grading assignments alongside the course’s professor.
Rachel graduated summa cum laude from The University of Alabama, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations. She was recently awarded the Academic Achievement Award and the Award for Scholarship and Outstanding Contributions to the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama. Her speeches earned a nomination for the Holle Award for Excellence in Public Speaking and two Toastmasters International awards.
She’s continuing her studies at The University of Alabama, where she is actively involved on campus. Rachel is the public relations manager for the Honors College Ambassadors, a group of 50 ambassadors that provide campus tours, recruiting events and additional Honors experiences. She is also a senior member of the Public Relations Council of Alabama, an association of young communications professionals.
Rachel is a proud Alabama Crimson Tide season-ticket holder and a massive football fan. She is also an avid traveler, having visited over 30 countries, and she speaks three languages fluently: English, Hebrew and Spanish.
