Public Relations Internship Opportunity
B2 Communications moves quickly and efficiently. Its PR interns are expected to complete high-quality work, juggle multiple tasks, follow through on projects, communicate with our team and meet deadlines.
Description of Common Internship Tasks:
- Account support (10%)
- Attend client meetings
- Media relations (10%)
- Use MuckRack to research media outlets and contacts
- Update media lists
- Draft news releases and media alerts
- Content development (20%)
- Draft social media posts
- Create blog posts, newsletter stories and other types of content
- Research & reporting (60%)
- Curate clients’ media placements
- Develop share-of-voice and sentiment reports
- Compile reports using Muck Rack
- Complete other research projects
- Track digital (i.e. website, social media) performance
- Other tasks as assigned
Core Competencies:
- Proactive, organized and motivated student who aspires to become a PR pro.
- Accurate writer with strong grammatical skill and command of journalistic and AP style.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and constant learning.
- Voracious news consumer.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Able to successfully work in a fully remote environment
- Excellent writing and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Junior or senior, or a recent graduate, seeking a degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field
- Completed some public relations or journalism classes
- Proficiency with key computer applications including Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google for Business, Dropbox, Slack, Zoom, cloud-based software (Dropbox and Drive) and design tools (Canva)
- Understanding of WordPress (or similar content management system), MuckRack (or similar media research database and media monitoring systems), MailChimp (or similar email marketing platform), Loomly (or other social media management/scheduling tools), and AirTable (or similar project management tools) a plus
- Involvement with PRSSA, PRSA, Hispanic PR Association, National Association of Black Journalists, or other professional group preferred
Time Commitment:
- Available for a minimum of 16 hours per week
- Ideally, the candidate would be available 3 days per week for 20-24 hours
Compensation:
- $16 per hour
- Internship program can apply toward credit, if university or college allows
Career Development:
- Work closely with B2’s staff, receiving regular coaching, guidance and assistance.
- Ability to attend PRSA, FPRA, AMA, NABJ and other industry events to further your career development and develop a professional network
- Participate in regular B2U learning sessions
- Earn certifications for Google Analytics and MuckRack's Fundamentals of Media Relations, Fundamentals of Media Measurement, and Fundamentals of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
